Company History

When Clear Water Technologies, Inc. (CWTI) was incorporated in 1991 it’s main focus was on lake restoration and management. The primary goal was to find ways to remove polluting nutrients from lakes thereby reducing weed growth, algae growth, and increasing water clarity.

Unique bacteria isolated from the bottom sediments of a particular lake were found capable of metabolizing ferrites. During this metabolizing process, the iron released, combines with nutrients like phosphorus and sulfur, with the resulting insoluble compounds precipitating from the water. By seeding the lake with a low cost ferrite, CWTI was able to reduce the weed growth, algae growth and improve the water clarity.

Based upon extensive research, CWTI found that many different types of wastewater treatment systems could use a similar process to reduce nutrients in wastewater effluent at a much lower cost. Upon applying this process to wastewater treatment systems, other benefits resulted.

Research also found that by treating septic systems with this process greatly increased the efficientcy of the system, therefore reducing upkeep and maintenance cost as well as protecting the recieving watershed from high nutrient loads.

CWTI now has three US patents and one Canadian patent for use of this process in Lake rehabilitation and Wastewater treatment systems.

This process coined “The Hogen Process” has varying applications and CWTI continues to use this process for Lake rehabilitation as well as wastewater treatment.
